First Day Covers
50th Anniversary of the publication of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ by J.R.R. Tolkien

Royal Mail, the national postal service of the United Kingdom, commemorated the 50th anniversary of the publication of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers, on February 26,
1954, with an issue of a block of 10 X first class postage stamps depicting drawings illustrating locations in the books. All stamp illustrations were by the author except for the map which was by his son
Christopher.
Kim Benson was honoured to have her Tolkien artwork featured on these Handstamped Limited Edition First Day Covers in the UK. Each envelope bears two of the commemorative stamps and is officially postmarked by Royal Mail: Shirehampton, Bristol - 50th Anniversay of Myth and Magic, 26th February 2004 .
